Aqueductal blood clot as a cause of acute hydrocephalus in subarachnoid hemorrhage.

چکیده
We describe two patients with acute hydrocephalus, in whom CT scans did not show intraventricular hemorrhage unequivocally. Midline sagittal MR imaging revealed a blood clot plugging the aqueduct. MR imaging is useful for detecting sub-acute clots within the aqueduct and for differentiating them from other entities.

Prospective, randomized, open-label phase II trial on concomitant intraventricular fibrinolysis and low-frequency rotation after severe subarachnoid hemorrhage.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The goal of this randomized, open-label phase II study was to investigate the effect of concomitant low-frequency head-motion therapy and intraventricular fibrinolysis in patients after surgical or endovascular treatment for aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. METHODS Sixty patients experiencing subarachnoid hemorrhage were randomized into treatment with intraventricula...
متن کاملHydrocephalus in Patients With Head Trauma: A Series of 14 Patients
Background and Aim: Hydrocephalus can cause ventricular expansion, which if not treated promptly, can result in brain damage. The hydrocephalus-induced damage is not fully improved, even by means of surgical procedures, leading to permanent damages to the brain. Methods and Materials/Patients: The aim of this study was to evaluate the demographic characteristics as well as hydrocephalus in pat...
متن کاملHistopathological Findings in Brains of Patients Who Died in the Acute Stage of Poor-grade Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Patients with poor-grade aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) are likely to die due to irreversible acute-stage primary brain damage. However, the mechanism(s) and pathology responsible for their high mortality rate remain unclear. We report our findings on the brains of individuals who died in the acute stage of SAH. An autopsy was performed on the brains of 11 SAH patients (World Federati...
متن کامل[Clinical value of bedside ultrasonography in craniectomized patients].
Twenty-five patients underwent bedside ultrasonographic examination through a postoperative skull defect, and the images were compared with axial computed tomography (CT) scans. The patients included 12 with cerebrovascular disease, two with brain tumor, one with a brain abscess, and 10 with head injury. Clear ultrasonographic images were obtained in all patients except one who had undergone a ...
متن کاملExtent of acute hydrocephalus after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage as a risk factor for delayed cerebral infarction.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Delayed cerebral infarction (DCI) is an important cause of poor outcome after subarachnoid hemorrhage. Cerebral perfusion is a predictor for DCI. Because acute hydrocephalus may impair cerebral perfusion, we evaluated the predictive value of the extent of acute hydrocephalus on the development of DCI. METHODS We retrieved data on 321 patients admitted within 4 days afte...
